Dress for Success Vancouver (DFSV) is proud to announce they’ve been awarded a $15,000 Community Sponsorship from Vancouver Fraser Port Authority. The sponsorship recognizes the Helping Women Now program DFSV launched in March 2020 in response to COVID-19 and the effect the pandemic had on women’s employment in Greater Vancouver.
Helping Women Now is a support service Dress for Success designed to assist women to get the help they need quickly and without barriers. The program offers online and telephone support to help clients navigate the financial and employment supports offered by provincial and federal governments, one-to-one career support, social connection, digital workshops, and referrals to community resources.
“To us, a sustainable port delivers on three pillars: a healthy environment, thriving communities, and economic prosperity through trade,” explained a representative from Vancouver Fraser Port Authority. “We believe being a good neighbour and building community connections is the key to a thriving community, which is why we are always looking for opportunities to support local organizations such as Dress For Success Vancouver, whose work enriches the lives of women in our region.”
“The pandemic has pushed women’s participation in the labour force down to its lowest level in three decades. Many women face a greater possibility of falling out of the workforce altogether, presenting a grim reality and a very real economic risk to us all,” shared Dress for Success Vancouver Executive Director, Amy Robichaud. “This support from the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority will allow us to grow our support for under- and unemployed women in our community, support that is critically needed.”
