On a chilly Saturday morning on January 14th, twenty ambitious women gathered to dedicate their day to learning and networking. The theme of the day was “Building your LinkedIn Profile,” but the workshop was much more than advice for building an online presence.
This full day event provided attendees the opportunity to have their makeup expertly done prior to receiving a professional headshot for their LinkedIn profile. While personal makeup was being applied by ML Makeup Artistry and poised headshots were being conducted, the remaining guests had an opportunity to participate in structured and unstructured networking opportunities. The planned networking opportunities included networking bingo, where participants got to learn who had similar personal and professional backgrounds to themselves, and a formal discussion on networking strategies. A few reoccurring networking tips were: be yourself, don’t be afraid to ask for opportunities and networking can occur everywhere and anywhere.
The event was excellent, but don’t just take our word for it. Here is what one of the attendees said:
“I love my new headshot and I am so very grateful for the opportunity to connect with wonderful, friendly, fabulous, and ambitious peers, within the context or education, connection and empowerment! I have never felt more excited about LinkedIn. “
We could not have conducted this workshop without the commitment of our tremendous volunteers and sponsors. The Carer Centre workshop planning committee will certainly be planning a similar event in the future – stay tuned!
