Wear2Start Looking for Volunteers

Wear2Start, a volunteer-driven non-profit based in Victoria, is looking for volunteers. Similar to Dress For Success, W2S provides a wardrobe to self-identified women who require clothing to take the next step forward in their lives, whatever that might be for each individual. Clients receive clothing, shoes, handbags, accessories, a small bag of personal care accessories and referrals for a free haircut, a free bra fitting and bra.  Clients, referred by agencies and organizations in Greater Victoria, might seek W2S services because they are applying for or starting a new job, attending a work- or school-related event, appearing in court or a myriad of other reasons.

Currently, W2S has two types of openings for volunteers – (1) to serve on the board of directors or (2) to work with clients in their boutique.

(1) Directors work to support the organization mission and strategic objectives. Time commitment includes preparing for and attending a monthly board meeting, participating on committees and attending events, which are rare during COVID. Anyone can apply to serve on the board. Previous experience is not necessary, but time, commitment and a passion for helping others in the community is important. Request an application from Wear2Start’s president, Angela Mangiacasale, via email at W2Spresident@wear2start.com.

(2) Volunteers are needed to work in Wear2Start’s small boutique in downtown Victoria. Low-contact (max. 4 people in the boutique during shift), mandatory mask use by volunteers and clients, COVID-19 protocols in place. Duties require standing and walking for majority of shift, which ranges from 3 to 4 hours, as well as bending, lifting, carrying items and assisting with clothing, shoe and accessory selection. For more information, contact boutique co-ordinator Janine Shea, jshea@wear2start.com.
