Running and Achieving Your Goals

Running has taught Altynay so much. She takes the lessons that she has learned from running and applies them to her professional life: Start slowly, and keep going. “If something doesn’t work out the way you want it to you don’t need to be discouraged just keep trying.” And, try new things. “It’s a great achievement because when you are able to accomplish something like this — something you’ve never done before you feel very proud of yourself,” she said.

Jessica’s Story

I walked into Dress for Success Vancouver on a beautiful March day, the sky a bright blue. On my way up to the office, I felt nervous, as if it was my first day at school.

Mahek’s Story

Dress for Success gave me more than tools to succeed, it gave me belonging, community, and the confidence to rise in a country that once felt unfamiliar and overwhelming.

Janet’s Story

I went to Dress for Success and listened to women like myself who wanted something better, something greater for themselves. These women weren’t attached to their function like their job, they were connecting with their souls and their spirits. After attending the Professional Women’s Group meetings for six months, I received an invitation for suiting services. The experience that followed will always be one of my fondest.

Trude Huebner

Trude Huebner is one of our most involved former clients. She came to us after being laid off, and returned several years later after surviving breast cancer. She has experienced many of our programmes—dressing services, career centre workshops, and the Professional Women’s Group (PWG), through which she coordinated a Community Action Project (CAP) in 2011. These days, she’s the volunteer speaker coordinator for PWG and PWG alumni. On May 12th, Trude has been selected with six other PWG clients

Deepika from Vancouver

With determination in the face of adversity and betrayal, she defied all expectation to overcome insurmountable odds with only the tenacious belief that she could. Deepika shares how the trials & tribulations of her life have shaped her as a person, and what Dress For Success Vancouver means to her.

Meet Tarana Sultan

Professional Women’s Group (PWG) client Tarana Sultan won a scholarship to attend our Success Summit in Alexandria, Virginia in 2014 to learn about creating a Community Action Project (CAP) that would give back to her community. Tarana decided to give back to the Somali Youth Association of BC (SYABC), established to help settle new comers, refugees and immigrants to Canada.

Cheryl-Ann Henning – Courage Opens Doors

Cheryl-Ann is our spokesperson for our biggest fundraiser, IMPACT 360: Opening Doors on May 10th, 2017. She has been selected along with nine other women going through the Professional Women’s Group program, to be a part of the Fashion Show portion of the event. We interviewed Cheryl-Ann to learn more about her journey to IMPACT.

WE ECONOMICALLY EMPOWER WOMEN ACROSS THE GLOBE

Amrita founded Dress for Success Kathmandu in 2017 and is working tirelessly to drive change for women in Nepal. In this interview with Dress for Success Worldwide, Amrita discusses the challenges women face in her very patriarchal country, the moment she realized she needed to give back to women in her community and why it is so crucial that women in Nepal strive to become educated and financially independent.

Jess’s Story

When I showed up for my Dress for Success Vancouver suiting appointment, I was beaten down. At the lowest point of my life, with little self-confidence. I was genuinely welcomed as soon as I stepped into the boutique, and everyone treated me with dignity. I joined the PWG and this program opened and changed my life. They offered me the mentors and leadership development that I longed for.
