When Nchegem arrived in Canada at the end of winter, she faced a cold climate for the first time, and a job market that felt just as chilly. Dress for Success Vancouver showed her warmth when she needed it most, providing stylings for both the new weather and her continuing professional career.
As a newcomer to Canada, I arrived toward the end of winter. Coming from a humid climate, I underestimated how cold the transition into spring would feel. So, I had packed only what I considered necessities and arrived without appropriate clothing for the winter and early spring.
A friend introduced me to Dress for Success Vancouver, and I was quickly connected with a newcomer styling appointment. The experience came at a time when I was still finding my footing in a new country, and the support received was not only practical, but also gave me a sense of belonging during a challenging period of adjustment.
Styled for Success
Later, when I secured an interview for my current role, Dress for Success supported me again with an interview styling. I wore the outfit they provided to my interview, and I got the job!
For me, the experience went beyond clothing. Having the right professional look gave me an added sense of confidence and helped me walk into my interview feeling prepared and ready for the opportunity. It was a meaningful reminder that I had a community supporting me as I built my next chapter.
Giving Back
Today, I occasionally volunteer with the Dress for Success community. Being able to give back to an organization that supported me during an important transition makes the experience even more meaningful.
Dress for Success Vancouver has played a meaningful role in my settlement and employment journey, helping me step into new opportunities with dignity, confidence, and hope. I am grateful to have experienced both the support and the community that make Dress for Success so special.
