Women Who Inspire: International Women’s Day at Dress for Success Vancouver

It starts with one. One woman inspired. One life transformed. One gift that creates a ripple effect. Twenty-five years ago, one woman had a vision – to empower others to achieve financial independence and personal success. With a $5,000 gift and a mission to support women entering the workforce, Astrid Levelt’s passion ignited a movement. Today, Dress for Success Vancouver has empowered more than 46,000 women across the Lower Mainland, creating a potential economic impact of $2.1 billion. As we mark the close of our 25th anniversary year in March 2025, we reflect on the thousands of women whose lives have been changed through Dress for Success Vancouver. But our work is far from over. The need for mentorship, financial education, and career support remains urgent. Many women still face systemic challenges that prevent them from reaching their full potential. Approximately 10% of women in Canada live on low incomes, and nearly 20% of women in British Columbia earn less than $35,000 annually. Income inequality, unemployment, and the rising cost of living in Metro Vancouver continue to make economic independence an uphill battle for many. This is why our work continues – because when one woman rises, she brings her family, and her community with her. Your gift today can create opportunities for the next generation of trailblazers. Whether it’s $50 to provide a woman access to job readiness training, or $100 to equip her with the resources to secure that first job and gain the confidence to support her family, every contribution fuels a future where all women have the confidence and opportunities to thrive. This International Women’s Day, let’s commit to breaking barriers and building brighter futures together.
